Associate a static (Elastic) IP Address

Elastic IP addresses are free of charge as long as they are in use, but you will be charged with any which you have reserved but are not using.

To set up an elastic IP address:

Add IP

Address Allocated

Associate Address

Select Instance

Note the public DNS does not change for this instance, but it is attached to the instance not to the elastic IP.  You need to set up your own DNS server to point to this IP address, or use Route 53 – ask for details.
Once you have changed the IP address, any connections you had to the public DNS will stop working until you flush your local cache, as the old IP address will be stored and used.

just making sure we have a vertical scroll bar, otherwise it jitters sideways.
